Versatile English midfielder told to leave Man Utd and sign for PL rivals
Rio Ferdinand has urged Jesse Lingard to quit Manchester United on a permanent deal in the summer transfer market.
The 28-year-old star had made just three appearances for the Red Devils this season before he signed for West Ham on loan in the January transfer window for the remainder of the campaign.
He has made a bright start to his time with David Moyes’ team with two goals in his debut versus Aston Villa earlier this month.
The midfielder also impressed in the Irons’ 3-0 win against Sheffield United on Monday evening and Ferdinand believes Jesse should be aiming to leave United and extend his stay at West Ham.
‘What’s his ambition here, beyond this season, what is he [Lingard] looking to do? If West Ham don’t put a bid in to buy him at the end of this loan I think this loan has to be seen as a failure’ Rio told BT Sport.
‘That’s got to be his aim… to get a bid from West Ham and other clubs to take him out of Man United. Because I don’t see him going back to Man United and really affecting that squad now.’
In other news, four Premier League sides, including Manchester United are keeping tabs on Schalke’s Matthew Hoppe, according to the latest reports.
The American striker has impressed since breaking into Die Knappen’s first team earlier this season.
However, Matthew has caught the eye with his performances up front, with the 19-year-old having neted five goals in 11 league appearances.
