Spanish giants joined Chelsea in the race to sign World-Class No.12 defender

Real Madrid are reportedly set to rival Chelsea in the signing of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

The 22-year-old French defender was heavily rumoured with a move to Stamford Bridge over the summer, and Sevilla president Jose Castro has recently revealed that they turned down a £42.5m bid from the West London giants, as their offer did not meet the player’s £68m release clause.

Chelsea direct Premier League rivals, Man Utd have recently emerged as a contender for Kounde’s services and the Frenchman is believed to have told his agent to open talks with the 20-times English champions ahead of a proposed move next summer.

However, according to the Los Blancos fan site Defensa Central, Spanish giants are the latest team who are set to step up their pursuit for the 22-year-old defender in 2022.

Despite recruiting David Alaba on a free transfer over the summer, the Los Blancos remain in the market for another centre-back, after seeing Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos and leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Talented French defender, who won the UEFA Nations League with France earlier this month, has played 97 games across all competitions for Sevilla and still has three years left before his deal expires.
