Serie A giants refused to sell Arsenal-linked forward this summer
Inter Milan were approached by many Premier League teams for the services of Lautaro Martinez. The list of suitors included Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, with two of them even submitting an offer of nearly €90m while the Gunners offered a little less.
However, all of them were rejected by the Nerazzurri, who were determined to keep hold of their striker, especially after sanctioning the summer sale of centre-forward Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea. Another footballer in Achraf Hakimi had also left the San Siro in the summer in favour of a switch to PSG.
The decision made by the Nerazzurri, therefore, was hardly surprising as they already had to deal with a huge weakening of their offensive unit. Struggling with finances, Inter Milan even had to settle for the ageing Edin Dzeko as the replacement for the departed Romelu Lukaku.
Whether or not the Italian club’s determination in keeping hold of Argentina international pays off stays to be seen, but it is apparent that interesting sides like Spurs and Gunners are ready to come back in the market for Martinez in the winter transfer window.
The Spurs, for one, are already targeting a move for another Serie A centre-forward in Dusan Vlahovic in Fiorentina. Arsenal have not been actively linked with a proper striker after the end of the summer transfer window.
But the addition of the Argentine striker could undoubtedly make a lot of sense for the Gunners given the 24-year-old striker’s success at San Siro.
