Serie A giants keen on signing £100,000-a-week Chelsea left-back

Inter Milan have pinpointed Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso as a possible target to strengthen the left wing-back position, Calciomercato claims.

The Nerazzurri named Simone Inzaghi as their manager after Antonio Conte’s exit in the summer, but he has continued with the 3-5-2 system.

Federico Dimarco, Aleksandar Kolarov and Ivan Perisic are the club’s left wing-back variants at the moment, but two of them could depart next year.

Aleksandar and Ivan have their deals expiring in the summer of 2022. It is claimed that both could be released.

The club are looking at various options to strengthen the department including Alonso, Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic.

Marcos was largely out-of-favour under chief Frank Lampard, but his fortunes changed after the arrival of the German tactician Thomas Tuchel in January.

Thomas immediately reverted to a wing-back formation. Alonso shared his game time with Ben Chilwell during the back end of the season.

The Spanish star now appears as the first choice for the position after a positive pre-season and start to the new season.

The 30-year-old has almost two years left on his contract, and there have been no signs that the player could leave, especially after Emerson’s loan exit.

He remains a key part of the manager’s plans, and it will not be a surprise if the Blues open talks over a short-term contract extension.
