Serie A giants failed to sign versatile Liverpool forward
Liverpool have reportedly received the first offer from Serie A outfit Lazio for Xherdan Shaqiri.
The 29-year-old Swiss star made just five Premier League starts last campaign and has been linked with a transfer away from Anfield.
Xherdan, who joined the Anfield outfit from Stoke back in 2018, has two years remaining on his deal with the Merseyside club.
The Liverpool man showed what a wonderful player he can be at UEFA Euro 2020, netting three goals and providing an assist in five games, as his country reached the quarter-finals.
Those showings have led to renewed links of interest away from Merseyside with Italian side Lazio said to be his most eager potential buyers.
La Lazio Siamo Noi claim that the Biancocelesti have now tabled their first bid of €12 million (€10 million plus €2 million bonuses) but that the Reds are holding out for €15 million.
The Italians’ sporting director Igli Tare held a couple of telephone interviews with Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri before speaking to Jurgen Klopp’s side about their offer.
In spite of having their bid snubbed, there is room to negotiate between the clubs and Lazio are prepared to make an extra effort to convince the English giants to sell.
Any further talks is likely to be made once Xherdan returns from his holidays with Lazio’s interest described as ‘concrete’.
