Revealed: Spanish playmaker had chance to leave Man Utd this summer
Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has reportedly rejected a staggering £18m per year contract offer from an unnamed Saudi Arabian team in order to remain at Old Trafford.
The ex-Chelsea man has found it hard to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer starting XI and has been restricted to appearances in the EFL Cup match in the early stages of the 2020-21 season.
Mata’s contract with the 20-times English champions expires next summer, although the Red Devils do have the option to trigger a further year, however, the 32-year-old is supposedly intent on remaining in Manchester following a lack of playing time.
AS reports that an unnamed team in Saudi Arabia offered former Chelsea mand £18m per year to depart from Old Trafford – up from their initial offer of £11.5m – however, Mata has turned down that proposal.
The report claims that Mata wants to remain at Old Trafford as he is confident about their chances of claiming the silverware this campaign, however, the Spaniard has struggled for starts over the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James and Mason Greenwood.
The Spaniard has scored 50 goals in 257 games for the Red Devils, who mark their return to Premier League with a match against Newcastle United.
