Revealed: Former Real Madrid defender snubbed Chelsea move last summer

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has revealed that he turned down the chance to join Chelsea before signing for Ligue 1 giants, this summer.

The 22-year-old defender move to PSG from Serie A champions, Inter Milan in July for a fee in the region of £51.5m (€60m), signing on a five-year deal.

Thomas Tuchel was believed to have been interested in securing the services of Hakimi, however the Moroccan full-back decided to join Ligue 1 giants, who he has described as a “dream team” to play for.

“I had two offers, one from Chelsea and one from Paris Saint-Germain. But I felt I had to come to Paris, that I would have been happy there,” Hakimi told L’Equipe.

“PSG is a great club, I really appreciate the support the fans gave me straight away. I was lucky because so many other champions joined me. I feel good at PSG, we have a dream team and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Morocco international defender, who is known for being an attack-minded full-back, contributed to 16 goals across all competitions for Serie A giants, Inter Milan last season helping them to finish the season on top of the Italian top-tier, and has already found the net three times in eight Ligue 1 games for PSG this season.
