Revealed: Chelsea had chance to sign FIFA Ballon d’Or winning forward

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi agreed to join Chelsea back in 2014 – where he would have earned £50 per week this according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Messi, arguably the best has ever played this game, has spent his entire career to date playing for La Liga giants, Barcelona winning all possible trophies.

Since graduating from their illustrious La Masia academy, Argentine forward has stunned the football world with his talent.

Things could have been a lot different for Messi, however, for Di Marzio has claimed for Sky Sports that Chelsea came very close to becoming a new home for Argentine superstar back in 2014.

Di Marzio writes that Messi had a Facetime call with then a Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, during which he agreed to join the Stamford Bridge, where the report claims he would’ve earned an eye-watering £50m per-year.

It’s noted in the report the West London club’s intention to activate his €250m release clause, which six-years and a host of big-money move down the line feels like a small price to pay for one of the best players of all time if not the best.

At the time the transfer would have taken place, Argentina international forward would have been lining up alongside with Eden Hazard and Diego Costa in Chelsea’s front-line, with his best friend Cesc Fabregas playing from midfield.
