PL rivals eyeing move for out-of-favour Chelsea playmaker
Newcastle United would potentially consider making a move for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley if he allows him to go out on loan again next campaign.
According to The Athletic, Ross Barkley is amongst a list of players Newcastle are keeping close tabs on ahead of the summer transfer window.
Fellow West London club loanee Conor Gallagher is also believed to be under inspection.
They are possibly looking to replace the void left by Joe Willock, who enjoyed a fine spell with the Toon on loan from the Gunners.
Barkley himself had been sent away by his parent team Chelsea to link up with Aston Villa for the rest of the season.
Frank Lampard allowed him to depart from the club last September, not long after he believed the midfielder could be ‘a vutal role for this club.
After a bright start to life away from the Blues, the 27-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in November and never quite recovered.
His time at Villa ended with five times and one assist in 27 games.
The ex-England international is now slightly in the dark over where he will be playing his football next year.
Thomas Tuchel will assemble a lot of new faces ahead of the 2021/22 season. Only a select few will make the cut for his team.
Currently, it doesn’t seem like Ross Barkley has a place in Chelsea’s current ensemble.
However, a strong pre-season could put him in Tuchel’s good books.
Failing that, there seems to be plenty of teams willing to snap up his services.
