Not Alaba: Chelsea considering move for long-serving Bayern Munich defender
The London giants are plotting a summer move to secure the services of Jerome Boateng, whose deal at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the campaign. Germany international’s current deal at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of the campaign, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.
Bavarians are determined to keep hold him for another season, but no deal extension has been agreed, so a move away from Bavaria could still be on the cards.
Jerome is the third high-profile Bayern Munich centre-back who could leave Allianz Arena for free in the summer, along with Javi Martinez and David Alaba. The latter has emerged as the hot prospect of the transfer market for obvious reasons, with Real Madrid, for one, reportedly keen on his services.
Tuchel has placed his trust on experienced players so far, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva emerging as key members of his new-look defensive unit. Unfortunately, Silva’s contract at London club expires at the end of the season and the defender is set to struggle with an injury during the second half of the season.
Although Chelsea are determined to keep hold of the Brazilian for another season, Jerome could be another smart acquisition.
However, it might be difficult for Jerome to deny the chance to play for Bayern for another campaign should the Bavarians table a deal extension offer during the remainder of the season. It makes up for an exciting transfer saga as these two teams vie for the services of the 32-year-old next campaign.
