Man Utd refusing to loan out highly-rated full-back this month
Manchester United have reportedly decided against sending full-back Brandon Williams out on loan this month’s transfer window.
The 20-year-old Englishman has been linked with a temporary transfer away from Old Trafford in order to play more senior team football but is believed to remain part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for now.
He has played just once in the Premier League thus far this season, coming on as a late substitute during his side’s victory over Southampton in November.
Brandon’s lack of recent involvement sparked rumours that he could be set to sign for another top-flight club on a temporary basis, with Newcastle United and the Saints among the sides mentioned in connection with the player.
Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have also been tipped to launch a January move for Williams.
However, the Northern Echo has stated that the Magpies have abandoned their pursuit after becoming aware of the Red Devils’ decision to keep hold of their man.
He was handed a rare start in United’s FA Cup win against Xisco’s Watford on Saturday, playing the entire match at right-back.
United are expected to allow the Dutch youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah to quit the club this month, which will enable Brandon to remain and provide cover for Aaron-Wan Bissaka ahead of the club’s involvement in the UEFA Europa League knockout stages later in the campaign.
Williams enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season last season, playing 36 times across all competitions for the club.
