Man Utd in danger to miss out signing of world-cup winning defender
Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti has played down rumours that he could leave the Nou Camp in the foreseeable future.
The 26-year-old French defender has regularly been rumoured with a move away from the Catalan giants in recent transfer windows, with Arsenal and Man Utd among those linked with an approach for the Frenchman.
World-Cup winning defender has now confirmed that there were initial talks over a possible return to his former team Lyon in the summer, however, insists that he is only interested in staying at Nou Camp and ready to fight for starting spot in Roland Koeman’s squad.
“Lyon is my team, it is my city. It is the team that has given me the opportunity to play in Europe, in Barcelona and with the national team,” he is quoted as saying by Canal Football Club.
“There were talks with them during the transfer market, but there was never anything concrete.
“I don’t see myself in a club other than Barcelona. I have been clear with everyone on this issue.”
Samuel Umtiti has been limited to make only 33 appearances across all competitions over the past two campaign and is yet to feature at all so far back in 2020-21.
