Man Utd eyeing move for 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder
Manchester United have reportedly made a ‘firm offer’ to land Barcelona starlet Ilaix Moriba.
The 18-year-old Spaniard has been with the Catalan heavyweights since he was seven years old, progressing through Blaugrana’s La Masia academy and now regarded as one of the club’s brightest talents.
Ronald Koeman has set about introducing the player to the first-team in the latest months, handing him a senior debut in a Copa del Rey match against Cornella in January with the ace making his La Liga debut against Alaves this month, marking the occasion with an assist.
The Spain youth international came off the bench as Blaugrana sealed a memorable fight back against Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla to book their place in the Copa del Rey final this week. They will meet Marcelino’s Athletic Bilbao, last term’s winners, in the final in April.
According to a recent report from the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, there are multiple clubs across Europe keen on prising Moriba, who is represented by super-agent Jonathan Barnett, away from Barcelona.
With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2022, the Red Devils have already made an offer for Ilaix’s services, along with RB Leipzig. The youngster is believed to have a €100 million exit clause written into his existing contract.
However, the report adds Ilaix may choose to stay at Barcelona to repay the faith shown in him by manager Ronald Koeman, who has placed his trust in the Spanish giants’ youngsters during a difficult season.
