Man Utd determined to agree deal for Ligue 1 forward valued at €15m

Manchester United have reportedly approached the Ligue 1 club Reims over a summer transfer of striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 19-year-old almost joined Newcastle United during the January transfer window and is now on the radar of a couple of clubs heading into the summer transfer market after nine goals in 22 matches this term.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils have now made an enquiry over the ace, who could be available for a bargain €15 million this summer. The English side have reached out to his agent to discuss his plans for next term.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are not alone in their interest however with Hugo also a target for Arsenal. The Londoners are set to lose Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette this summer when agreements expire.

Wholesale changes are expected at Old Trafford this summer with interim manager Ralf Rangnick suggesting his side need to land two ‘modern’ strikers.

37-year-old living legend Cristiano Ronaldo has been the 20-time English champions’ only dependable option in attack this year.

‘Cristiano isn’t a central striker or does not want to play in that position. It’s obvious the club needs at least two new strikers who give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers,’ Ralf said.

‘Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers. If you look into international football, there aren’t many top teams who still play with two strikers. Most play with either three strikers or a false nine.’
