Man United interested in signing Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti

Man United could reportedly have their shot at signing Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti as they continue to seem for defenders. The 26-year-old defender has had some good times and some bad times in Spain and it seems like they’ve finally decided to end their ties.

Samuel’s proneness to injuries appears to have cost him his position at Camp Nou, with perhaps their new boss Ronald Koeman not being impressed. The Dutch manager may have decided to shuffle the deck with many recognising the need for a complete overhaul for the Spanish club.

Umtiti arrived in La Liga with high hopes he could be Gerard Pique’s long-term partner in the back-line but things haven’t quite worked out that way. The Catalan club are so desperate to get France international’s wages off their bill that they could let him go for free by releasing him, with Man United known to be recently interested in him.

It’s understood his current contract doesn’t run out until 2023 but such is the extent to which the Blaugrana wants to get rid of him. Given that the Norwegian manager is now the boss in charge of Red Devils, it’s unlikely he would sign the French centre-back, even if it didn’t cost a thing.

The World Cup winner is desperate to get back in the Les Bleus for the delayed Euro 2020 competition next year. Umtiti missed the cut for Didier Deschamps’ squad for the Nations League matches with Sweden and Croatia. And Samuel needs playing time if he is to add to his 31 international caps.
