Liverpool started negotiations with Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembélé

The Merseyside giants have reportedly made contact with Blaugrana over a loan move for forward Ousmane Dembele. Reds manager is closing in on his second addition of the summer window, with Bavarians midfielder Thiago Alcantara expected to be confirmed as a Liverpool footballer shortly.

Liverpool had been tracking Thiago for much of the window and finally agreed a £27m deal for Alcantara earlier this week. Liverpool were somewhat lucky last campaign that none of their attacking force were hit with long injuries with backup Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri not on the level of the first choice trio, despite Origi’s penchant for goals in big matches.

Ousmane was bought in August 2017 as Neymar’s replacement, costing the Blaugrana an initial €105m from Borussia Dortmund, with another €40m in add ons. Things haven’t worked out well for Dembele so far though and he’s played only 74 times in all tournaments over the previous three campaigns, thanks in the main to injuries.

France international is currently on the comeback from his latest injury, a hamstring tear which kept him out for the final 19 matches of the campaign, having recently missed 21 matches earlier in the campaign with another injury.

Barcelona have added Francisco Trincao and teenager Pedri to the wings this campaign, whilst Lionel Messi is now ready to stay, so the World Cup winner’s chances might be limited. Reds would pay the forward’s full wages for the campaign but the report expects that Blaugrana would only think about selling the 23-year-old forward, not loaning him.
