Liverpool plotting move for creative South American midfielder

Leeds United are determined to retain the services of Raphinha and will not be entertaining proposals for the sought-after winger this summer transfer window.

Raphinha sealed a £17 million move from Rennes to Elland Road in last year’s October and the 24-year-old star has registered five goals and five assists in an eye-catching maiden season in the Premier League.

The Brazilian attacker’s price tag looks more of a bargain with each passing week and his outstanding displays have allegedly caught the attention of both Liverpool and Manchester United.

But according to The Daily Mirror, the Whites have no plans to sell their prized possession and see the South American as a player to build around going forward as the club look to cement their place as PL team to be reckoned with once again.

The report adds that Raphinha is ‘happy’ at the club and has close relationships with Whites team-mates Helder Costa and Patrick Bamford, who speak with the former Sporting Lisbon and Rennes ace in Portuguese and French respectively.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa can rest easy in the knowledge that there is no exit clause in Raphinha’s contract which a club like the Reds and the Red Devils may have used to prise the forward away from West Yorkshire.

Still, the lure of playing for Jurgen Klopp’s team could well tempt him to Anfield if the Anfield side decide to make a move in the transfer market.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have been mainstays in the Reds’ starting line-up over the past few seasons. However, they haven’t hit the heights of previous terms this time around.
