Liverpool planning January move for £36m La Liga defender

Liverpool are allegedly planning a mid-season swoop for Eder Militao as they aim to solve their central defensive crisis.

Earlier in October, it was confirmed that defender Virgil van Dijk could be out for the season with an ACL injury and Joe Gomez has recently joined the Dutchman on the sidelines with a similar setback.

This has left Joel Matip and the German head coach Jurgen Klopp as the only senior centre-back and the ex-Schalke man’s fitness has been a worry for the Anfield outfit over the past 18 months.

According to a recent report from Spanish publication AS Eder has emerged as an option for the Premier League champions and they could be prepared to offer around £36 million to secure his services in January.

However, it is unclear whether Zinedine Zidane’s outfit will entertain any bids for the player, considering the Brazilian is considered as an immediate back-up option behind Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos.

The former Porto ace has found first-team chances hard to come by since his transfer to the Bernabeu. He has featured in just three matches for Los Blancos across all competitions this term.

Meanwhile, Juventus are allegedly ahead of Liverpool in the hunt to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The 28-year-old defender remains a key figure for Bayern but his existing contract at the Allianz Arena is due to expire next summer, and there are currently no signs that he will pen a new contract.

A number of sides have been credited with an interest in the Austria international, who has netted once and provided one assist in 10 appearances at club level this season.

Liverpool are allegedly keen to bring him to the PL next summer, but according to Tuttosport, Juve are in pole position for David as they look to sign a replacement for veteran Giorgio Chiellini.
