Liverpool keeping tabs on 26-year-old Argentine winger ahead of summer move

Liverpool are allegedly in the hunt to land Sevilla winger, Lucas Ocampos, with La Razon reporting the Reds are ‘willing’ to lodge a bid for the Argentine. He has been in brilliant form this moving to Seville. Ocampos has nailed down a regular slot in the starting eleven, scoring 24 goals in just 75 matches for the La Liga giants.

Lucas was particularly impressive in the 2019/20 season, where he was voted the best signing of the campaign in a poll by Marca. The wide attacker beating the likes of Frenkie De Jong to the award.

And now La Razon states Liverpool may be prepared to take a punt on Ocampos. Although it remains to be seen, per the aforementioned report, if Liverpool would pay the reported £56m exit clause in his current contract.

Jurgen Klopp may well look to bolster his attacking options this summer. The pressure on the likes of Firmino, Mane, and Salah has been big this season, while the Portugal international Diogo Jota picked up an injury in December and has been unable to return as yet.

The Reds do need to improve the roster to ensure they don’t get stuck in a rut, particularly after coming up short this term.

Lucas has the quality to contribute. He would fit in the Anfield side’s system too, but surely only as a back up to one of Sadio or Mohamed.

And there lies the problem for Liverpool. Any player in those positions knows they will play second fiddle for now. And at £56 million, it’s an expensive transfer to simply sit on the bench.
