Liverpool in pole position to sign RB Leipzig defender

Liverpool are set to rival Manchester United in next summer’s transfer market for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to the reports.

That’s according to reliable German outlet BILD, who also report that the Frenchman will be available for as little as €40million (£36.5mil).

It’s believed that RB Leipzig star has a release clause in his current deal which becomes active next summer and it’s ludicrously cheap any team from the Premier League can afford to sign him.

Upamecano’s current contract with the German club runs until 2023, however, rumours of his potential exit were rife over the summer.

He stayed, ending rummours for now, however, that’ll just start up again as soon as the next transfer window nears, with the player destined to play for one of the best teams in Europe.

While it’s nice to hear the Mersyeside Reds being linked with some of the most promising names in the world football, there’s probably not much in this rumour.

The Red Devils are infinitely more likely to make a move than both Citizens and Liverpool, with their defence an absolute weakness.

Should Upamecano continue his progress over the next 12 months, there will certainly be more rumours surrounding the future of 21-year-old centre-back
