Liverpool continue chase for Sporting Lisbon defender

Liverpool’s interest in Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes is back being highlighted by the media outlet.

Journalist Bruno Andrade brings an interesting piece on Goal reporting the youngster’s curious story from the time he was chased by a Leoes scout in the streets of Lisbon.

He was then recruited by Leoes’ academy, and since his debut last year, a possible transfer to the Premier League has been pushed by multiple reports.

This time, it’s reported that the Reds are the team making a serious pursuit for the signing.

The Anfield outfit reportedly had a €25m offer for the ace rejected, and according to the journalist, the club remain ‘strongly interested’ in the signing.

However, they aren’t alone in the hunt, since the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid have both been keen on Mendes as well.

The story adds that Sporting Lison believe they can get at least €40 million from a transfer, presumably this summer.

The defensive prodigy is protected by a release clause of €70 million, so there is a good margin of negotiation for them.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are allegedly giving serious consideration to tabling a bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

In spite of having recently won the Premier League and Champions League, it has been suggested that the Merseyside side cannot afford the World Cup winner.

The Parisians are currently attempting to renew the contract of the France international, who has just over 18 months remaining on his deal.

However, according to AS, the Anfield outfit are in a strong position when it comes to making an official approach for the 22-year-old attacker.
