Liverpool 24-year-old star linked with surprise move to Bundesliga

Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen have emerged as a potential destination for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the German outfit are interested in bolstering their defensive ranks this summer.

He enjoyed a circumstantial breakthrough season during 2020/21. Injuries to Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip meant he had to step up.

He did not disappoint either. The centre-half featured 20 times for the reds and caught the eye with a string of brilliant displays.

Now, Jurgen Klopp could be prepared to sell him. With his primary centre-halves now fit, and new recruit Ibrahima Konate in place, senior team opportunities will be restricted.

At 24, Nat will want to play. The star got a taste for regular action at Liverpool last term and that will be his immediate goal. It is reported that he will be available for just £15m this summer.

Die Werkself will be in the Europa League next term and Phillips got a taste of European action during the 2020/21 term. It’d also allow him the chance to head back to Germany.

The Englishman played 22 times for VfB Stuttgart during the 2019/20 season, helping his former club to promotion back to the Bundesliga.

Nat proved himself as a decent central defender and given his age, Phillips should still improve in the coming years.
