Kevin Phillips has praised “brilliant” Liverpool 25-year-old forward

Kevin Phillips has praised “brilliant” Liverpool forward Diogo Jota as the Portugal international continues to produce in the absence of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Ex-Sunderland and England striker, speaking to Football Insider, stated the 25-year-old star’s game has “benefitted massively” from his switch to Anfield.

He came up trumps for Jurgen Klopp’s side yet again, winning a penalty in the final minutes as the Reds won 3-2 against Crystal Palace.

The striker netted also a brace versus Arsenal to send the Merseyside giants to the final of the League Cup last week.

Kevin suggested the former Wolves man’s “brilliant” form is “softening the blow” of the absences of Mohamed and Sadio.

“People are now starting to realise now what an important and influential player he is for Liverpool. He’s a class player, and he showed that yet again the other night against Arsenal,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“Liverpool were expected to struggle with the two lads away at the African Cup of Nations. But when you have a player of Jota’s quality, it will soften the blow.

“He floats around, gets in great positions, runs in behind – and his composure in front of goal is brilliant.

“I think everyone realises now what a quality player he is. When you’re surrounded by quality, you look even better – and I think he’s benefitted from that massively.”
