Jens Lehmann heaped praise on Arsenal £22.5m star
Jens Lehmann has lavished praise on Bernd Leno and branded the shot-stopper Arsenal’s most ‘consistent’ performer this campaign.
After a miserable start to the season, the Gunners’ fortunes have begun to turn around in the latest weeks after winning four of their last five Premier League matches.
However, Arsenal’s defence of the FA Cup ended as the club crashed out at the fourth-round stage courtesy of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s side will have an opportunity to bounce back when they face the fellow English side again, this time in the league, on Tuesday night.
In spite of the team’s inconsistency as a whole, Jens sees Leno as the Gunners’ most dependable player this season.
‘I think Bernd Leno is the most consistent player for Arsenal this season, from what I have seen,’ the north London outfit’s legendary former shot-stopper told Radio Times.
‘He’s doing a really good job there. Without him the position would have looked worse, the position on the table, than it is right now.
‘Arsenal is rising right now and I’m looking forward to the German player contributing to hopefully more success!’
In other news, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly about to offer the Germany international Julian Draxler to Arsenal in an exchange bid for midfield outcast Matteo Guendouzi, according to reports.
The Gunners have previously been mentioned with Draxler and are said to have intensified their interest in the 27-year-old star after Borussia Dortmund insisted that Julian Brandt wasn’t available last month.
L’Equipe says that Ligue 1 side are ready to move for Matteo, who spent nine years at the French club’s academy as a youngster.
The French outlet states that Guendouzi had been a target for the Parisians before joining Arsenal from Lorient back in 2018.
