Free agent South American defender could make Man Utd move next month

Premier League giants, Manchester United are reportedly considering signing experienced full-back Santiago Arias on a free transfer.

The 20-times English champions were believed to be keen to bring a new right-back to the team over the summer, however, the window ends with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka remaining the options in that area of the field.

Dalot has kept hold of his starting spot from the second half of last campaign, with the Portugal international proving to be a vital player under new manager Erik ten Hag thus far.

However, Wan-Bissaka has allegedly been told that he is surplus to requirements, with the Englishman not believed to be in the head-coach plans moving forward.

Ethan Laird was allowed to join QPR over the summer, while Brandon Williams is currently injured and out of favour, leaving the Red Devils short of options at right-back.

According to journalist Johnson Saenz, the Red Devils’ are interested in adding Arias to the team as cover in that area of the field.

Saenz reports that the Colombian already ‘has his bags ready’, with the Red Devils prepared to hand him a two-year deal to make the move to Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old defender has been without a team since departing from Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in June, playing 51 games for the capital giants during his time with them.

Arias has also represented Sporting Lisbon and PSV during his professional career.
