EPL team eyeing move for 25-year-old Liverpool key man

Bournemouth have been given fresh hope in their chances of securing the services of central defender Nat Phillips from Premier League giants, Liverpool during the summer transfer window, according to the reports.

The 25-year-old defender spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at the Vitality Stadium, helping Scott Parker’s side to secure a promotion to the English top-tier.

Phillips played 17 Championship games during his time on the south coast with the Cherries, who stay keen on bringing the centre-back back to the team ahead of their return to the top flight next campaign.

After previously being suggested that the Merseyside Reds would seek a £15m fee to sell Phillips permanently in the summer, the Mirror are claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s team have performed a U-turn on their decision by allowing him to move on loan to the Cherries again during the transfer window.

The report claims that the Merseyside Reds now view Phillips as a potential long-term replacement to Joel Matip, after being impressed by his form in the second tier last campaign, and will sanction a loan move for the 2022-23 season to for him to continue his development.

Phillips suddenly shot up the pecking order at Anfield during the 2020-21 season, during which the Reds endured a defensive injury crisis, with the likes of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk serving long spells on the sidelines.
