Chelsea ready to listen offers for £100,000 a-week playmaker

Aston Villa would allegedly have to fork out a hefty transfer fee to sign Chelsea loanee Ross Barkley on a permanent deal.

The ex-Everton man joined the Villa on loan in the summer and impressed for the West Midlands side before sustaining a hamstring injury back in November last year.

Following his bright start to life for Dean Smith’s European-chasing side, rumours of a permanent deal for the 27-year-old midfielder at Villa Park have begun to emerge after an underwhelming time at Stamford Bridge thus far.

However, Birmingham Live reports that if the west Londoners did decide to offload Ross permanently, they would not allow the player to leave on the cheap considering his wage and contractual situation.

Barkley is tied down to the Blues until June 2023 and is understood to be pocketing £100,000-a-week in the English capital, and the report states that Villa could instead move for Bournemouth’s David Brooks if a move for Ross does not come to fruition.

The England international boasts two goals and one assist for his team in the current season and could be back for Wednesday’s visit of Tottenham Hotspur, although the fixture is shrouded in uncertainty because of the Villans’ recent coronavirus outbreak.

Elsewhere, AC Milan chief is “confident” Gianluigi Donnarumma will pen a new contract with the club, in the news which will come as a big blow to Chelsea.

Donnarumma’s current deal expires this summer, giving rise to transfer speculation he could leave San Siro.

The Blues have been linked with the 21-year-old Italian star, who has already racked up 22 caps for his country.

Frederic Massara told DAZN: “We’re confident to reach an agreement with Donnarumma and Calhanoglu in order to extend their contracts in the next weeks.”
