Chelsea plotting move for out-of-favour Bayern Munich defender
Chelsea have reportedly already tabled an offer for German champions. Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule.
With French defender Dayot Upamecano set to arrive at the Allianz Arena this summer from German club RB Leipzig, Sule’s future with the Bundesliga and world champions stay shrouded in uncertainty.
Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has already revealed that a new contract for the defender – who is out of deal in 2022 – may not be possible unless certain conditions are met.
Now, German outlet Abendzeitung claims that the Blues – who are expected to be in the market for strengthening their backline this summer – have now made an offer for the Germany international, and a sale in the upcoming transfer window cannot be ruled out.
The report also claims that the imminent arrival of Omar Richards from Championship outfits Reading will see Lucas Hernandez deployed centrally alongside Upamecano – a move which will push Sule further down in the pecking order – and Thomas Tuchel could use this situation to lure him at Stamford Bridge.
Sule – also capable of filling in at right-back – has struggled for consistent starts with German champions this season, featuring from the first whistle on 12 times in the 2020-21 Bundesliga season.
