Chelsea in danger to miss out signing of Serie A No.4 defender

Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly open to signing for La Liga giants, Barcelona during the summer transfer window despite strong interest from hosts of top European teams including Chelsea.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been involved on a regular basis since his arrival in Turin two years ago, the defender making 76 starts and seven substitute games.

However, according to Calciomercato, the Netherlands international would not say no to moving to Barcelona at the end of the season.

The report suggests that agent Mino Raiola has already informed the likes of the Spanish giants and the Blues that De Ligt is unhappy with life at Juventus.

Despite having a release clause in the region of £135m, the Serie A giants would not hold out for that fee should the player signal a desire to depart in 2022.

The player, who cost £67.5m in 2019, has just under three years left on his deal.

Both Man Utd and Chelsea have strengthen their offensive end in the last smmer transfer window, the Red Devils added Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, while the Blues managed to re-sign Romelu Lukaku and now their main goal will be to add top class defenders in the summer.
