Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater could be eyeing up a shock move to the Bundesliga, according to reports.
The Englishman is completely out of the picture under manager Frank Lampard and has played a few matches in the Premier League 2 to try and find some level of fitness.
Fussball Transfers claim the player’s agents are working to find him a new term in the January transfer window, and that has seen them consider Germany as an option.
Talks with struggling Bundesliga club Schalke took place back two months ago, although nothing came of that route.
Markus Gisdol’s FC Koln were tried after that, although that has not come to anything either.
The west London side are so keen to get rid of the player, even on a loan for the rest of the campaign, that they are prepared to continue paying part of Danny’s salary.
That makes the midfielder available to clubs with smaller transfer kitties, but Fussball Transfers are doubtful whether they will be any takers in Germany, in spite of the player ‘toying over’ a move there.
That would see the representatives have to look elsewhere, and there has been past interest from North America, Russia and Turkey.
Elsewhere, Olivier Giroud has been linked with a transfer to Serie A, but the Chelsea forward suggests he’s not going to leave the west London outfit before the end of the campaign.
The 2018 France World Cup winner is being mentioned with a January move to Juventus or Inter Milan, but the Blues star seems happy in London.
“We will see what happens in the next few months, but I just want to keep my efficiency high. When I am not on the pitch, I just try to be a part of the team,” he told Sky Sports UK.
“I really want the best for this team and I really believe we have a big opportunity to win something at Chelsea with this great squad. I will just carry on like this and try to keep it up.”
