Chelsea eyeing move for Villarreal defender valued at £13m
Chelsea have allegedly been told to shell out a bid of £13 million if they want to seal a deal for Villarreal defender Alfonso Pedraza.
The 25-year-old star was a key part of the Yellow Submarine’s UEFA Europa League winning-side last term, starting 10 matches in the competition and playing 88 minutes in their final win over Manchester United.
Pedraza’s performances didn’t go unnoticed by clubs across Europe, and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the left-sided Spaniard.
According to a recent report from Calciomercato, the club would be willing to let their player leave for a modest fee of £13 million, in spite of the fact that his contract doesn’t expire until June 2025.
However, Chelsea could face stern competition for the player’s signature, as Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen, Roma and AC Milan have all been touted with an interest.
Alfonso boasts six goals and nine assists from 94 outings in Villarreal colours, and he previously played 14 Championship matches during a 2016-17 loan spell with Leeds United.
Meantime, Chelsea are looking to sign Marcus Bettinelli as a third-choice shot-stopper for the coming season, according to a recent report.
He spent last term on loan with Middlesbrough in the EFL Championship and appeared seven times in the top-flight with Fulham in 2018-19.
