Chelsea could miss out signing of French No.5 defender
Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a £40m offer for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.
The 20-times English champions are expected to bring a new defender to the club in the summer as a partner for Harry Maguire, and Varane has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months. while Chelsea also interested to lure him at the club.
The France international stays a vital player at Santiago Bernabeu, however, his current contract set to expire next summer, and there have been talks that the Los Blancos would be open to a sale in the transfer market.
According to The Mirror, the Red Devils are lining up a £40m offer for the World Cup winning defender, who is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer’s transfer window.
The report suggests that the 20-time English champions have failed to secure the services of Raphael Varane on two previous occasions but are now confident of bringing him to the team ahead of the 2021-22 season.
The centre-back, who has also previously been linked with Chelsea as a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva who could be on his way out from Stamford Bridge in the summer.
