Chelsea cooled interest in signing of Lille stopper Mike Maignan

Premier League giants Chelsea have reportedly ended their interest in securing services of Lille stopper Mike Maignan as they are fully focused on getting deal done for Rennes, Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea head-coach Frank Lampard is believed to have made the signing of a new goalkeeper one of his top priorities for the remainder of the transfer window, as he has been unconvinced with their record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The world’s most expensive stopper ended the 2019/20 campaign with the lowest save percentage in the English top-tier while the Blues as a team had the worst defensive record as well.

The likes of Jan Oblak, Mendy and Maignan both have been on top of Frank Lampard’s radar, however, the recent reports claim that the Blues have cooled interest in the Lille’s stopper.

Lille slapped £32m price tag for the 25-year-old, whereas the Blues were only ready to pay £22m.

The West London club are hopeful of landing Mendy for a similar price as talks with Rennes have been positive – a club technical director Petr Cech has been in good relationship with the French club and deal could be done before the start of the Premier League season.

Chelsea have been the biggest spenders in this summer’s having already secure services of Timo Werner, Hakim Zyech, Thiago Silva and Malanga Sarr thus far.
