Chelsea and Liverpool continue chase for Bundesliga No.27 defender

Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly pushing hard to convince Bayern Munich’s David Alaba to join them instead of the La Liga giants Real Madrid this summer transfer market.

The 28-year-old star announced earlier this week that he’ll depart the German champions on a free transfer at the end of the campaign after failing to agree a fresh contract.

The versatile Austrian player, who can play in a range of positions in defence and midfield, will be one of the most in-demand signings this summer with no transfer sum to pay.

ESPN reports that eight teams have already been in contact with Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi about the player.

Los Blancos are leading the race to land him, having already reached a verbal agreement with the star and agent over financial terms.

But David will listen to what other clubs are prepared to put on the table and there is no shortage of potential buyers.

Four Premier League outfits are in the running: Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are also in the hunt, but the Blues and the Reds are said to be the two sides making the biggest effort to persuade Alaba of a move.

Chelsea are allegedly eyeing more defensive recruits in the summer and a swoop in German heavyweights is being touted.

Die Roten are already set for a big shake up at the end of the campaign having agreed a deal in principle to land Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
