Arsenal set to offer new deal to Brazilian defender
Arsenal are reportedly yet to negotiate terms over a new deal for Brazilian defender David Luiz.
The South American centre-back was handed an extra 12 months on his current contract last summer after impressing the North London club’s boss Mikel Arteta with the impact he had at the lockerrom and on the pitch, using his experience to guide some of the younger players in the squad.
However, the 33-year-old’s current deal expires in June and he is believed to depart the Gunners at the end of the season.
Football Insider claims that the North London giants squad planning for the summer transfer window is already underway, with several players including Luiz have uncertain future at the Emriates Stadium/
A possible extension for Brazilian centre-back would only make sense if he were willing to agree to a player-coach role at the club and accept the limited time.
Central defenders Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari all provide competition at the centre-back position and all of them are 27-years-old.
Luiz has played 14 games in the Premier League so far this campaign as well as featuring three times in the Europa League, scoring once against Rapid Vienna in October.
