Arsenal set to make approach for £55m-rated French midfielder

Arsenal are willing to launch another attempt to land Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

The north Londoners were priced out of a move for the 22-year-old star last summer – with Les Gones demanding up to £55m.

However, the Ligue 1 side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League means Houssem will cost as little as £20m – a figure well within Arsenal’s price range.

And SunSport understands that the Gunners are readying a contract worth £100,000 per week to lure him to the Emirates at the second time of asking.

Houssem chipped in with eight goals and four assists last term for Lyon and has been on the radar of multiple Premier League sides, including Liverpool.

However, Arsenal are currently leading the hunt as they look to strengthen their creative attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Midfield is an area where his side could sell in the coming months, with Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka linked with moves away.

And with the player not involved in Didier Deschamps’ France roster for the Euros, contract talks are expected to be hassle-free.

Speaking before Lyon’s last game of the term, Aouar admitted: “This could be my last game for the club.”
