Arsenal keep a close eye on Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar
The London club have been told the same message by both Atletico Madrid and Lyon when it comes to adding Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar. Arsenal are looking to sign one of the two footballers to the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes on October 5 but that will prove tough for the Spanish manager.
Arteta has identified his midfield as a place that needs attention but there may have to be several moves in order to spend. It’s clear that Partey and Houssem won’t come cheap and as it stands, Gunners funds are incredibly limited. They have, however, harvested £20m through the sale of Emiliano Martinez who has joined the Villans.
Hector Bellerin was also the subject of a £25m offer from PSG but he is ready to remain. Mikel Arteta has shown he is willing to give all the current footballers a clean slate and the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah are reaping the rewards of that.
Arteta may have to continue putting his trust in those footballers though with Gunners unlikely to find the cash that the Los Rojiblancos and the Les Gones are demanding. Lucas Torreira is one footballer who could quit the London club this summer with Torino and Fiorentina among those keen on the 24-year-old midfielder.
Matteo Guendouzi has also been offered about to both Atletico Madrid and Lyon as part of a player-plus-cash deal. Neither are interested in any form of a swap deal and Ligue 1 giants’ strong stance on the French midfielder was recently confirmed by sporting director Juninho.
