Arsenal keen on to agree new contract for 28-year-old midfield destroyer

Mohamed Elneny is reportedly set for a contract extension after impressing for Mikel Arteta’s side after returning from loan spell.

The Egyptian anchorman looked to be on his way out of the team after making a return from a loan spell with Turkish giants, Besiktas however, he has established himself in the starting lineup after a stunning start to the season.

He has played nine games for the club this campaign and played alongside £45million arrival of Thomas Partey in the heart of the the Gunners midfield area in their 1-0 victory over the Red Devils this weekend.

Elneny’s current contract expires at the end of the current campaign and, according to the Daily Mail, talks are set to begin about contract extension at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Arteta played down talk of the ex-Basel midfielder getting a new deal just yet.

‘Let’s go step by step please,’ he said when asked about Elneny’s contract situation.

‘What I can say is that I am really pleased with the player and everything that he is doing and hopefully he can continue like that and perform really well throughout the season.

‘I think he is responding really well to all the challenges we are putting in front of him.

‘He had a big one when he came back from his loan spell to show what he could bring to the squad.

‘And I think everyone has seen what he can do, so I am really pleased with his performances and what he brings to the team.’
