Arsenal joined the race for 21-year-old RB Leizpig defender
Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to secure services of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.
The 21-year-old missed the majority of last campaign through injury, however, has since re-established himself as an important member of Julian Nagelsmann’s starting XI at Leipzig.
Sport Bild reports that a number of Premier League teams, including Arsenal, are interested in securing the services of the defender, possibly as early as the upcoming January transfer window.
However, Leipzig are reluctant to lose their key player, particularly with his centre-back partner Dayot Upamecano is likely to be on his way out from the German outfits.
Konate has a €50m (£44.9m) release clause in his current deal and the report suggests that RB Leipzig would be unwilling to accept anything less than that.
The France U-21 international is contracted to German outfits until 2023 and has played 79 games in total.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly locked in a three-way fight with Leed United and Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signature of Reading forward Michael Olise.
The 18-year-old talented forward made the breakthrough at the Royals during the 2019-20 season, ending the campaign with two assists in 23 games in all competitions.
Olise has already made four Championship appearances this season, meanwhile, contributing one goal and two assists during a stunning start to the season.
