Arsenal in talks to sign Barcelona long-serving midfielder

Arsenal are thinking about a move for Barcelona’s versatile player Sergi Roberto, according to Fichajes.net.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the campaign and there is no new information yet on the renewal.

The main issue beyond convincing him to lower the current salary is that the 29-year-old is demanding a long-term deal.

The La Liga giants, however, plan to hand him a short-term contract, so they can consider the sale in the immediate future.

Sergi can be utilised as a right-back and can also operate in the midfield. The star doesn’t fit into Xavi’s plans at the Camp Nou outfit.

He does not have space in the middle of the park, while the Catalan club look to bring in a new defender on right wing next summer. Therefore, his exit appears to be impending after this season.

The Gunners get a mention as they’re looking at him at the request of manager Mikel Arteta. The north London giants are interested in landing Roberto’s services since the defender is an old wish of their head coach.

The club view him as a man who can challenge the likes of Albert Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, as well as Takehiro Tomiyasu.
