Arsenal in advanced talks to sign highly-rated Romanian attacker

Romanian ace Claudiu Micovschi has detailed how he almost ended up at Arsenal before his transfer to Italy.

The 22-year-old attacker is currently starring at Avellino in Serie C, who he signed from Genoa in the summer.

He has been in Italy since 2015 when he joined I Rossoblu Under 17s side from Luceafarul Oradea in his native Romania.

Claudiu’s worked his way up the ranks at Stadio Luigi Ferraris since then, as well as enjoying loan stints with the likes of Regina and Avellino before returning to the former in 2021.

It has been an interesting season for the Romanian youngster thus far but things could have been even more different.

That is because earlier in his professional career, the player found himself close to joining the Gunners, an experience he recently detailed in the latest conversation with media outlet Tutto Avellino about his career thus far.

“There were three games in one day in Cluj, where there were scouts from Arsenal. I scored three goals. Arsenal called me, but I didn’t know what to do,” Micovschi said.

“Then I did the internship in London, where we had tournaments against Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Basel and Borussia Dortmund, against whom I scored.

“I was all set to go to Arsenal, but at the last minute, they changed their minds. It was still a great experience; I was only 14 years old. I was the first Romanian at Arsenal.”
