Arsenal held negotiations with Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar
The London giants are planning to make a second offer for Houssem Aouar after Lyon rejected their initial £32m offer. The London club consider France international a primary target for the summer transfer window and have held negotiations with the playmaker’s agent ahead of an improved offer.
The French club have made it clear that they will not sell Houssem for anything less than £55m following his fantastic campaign at the Groupama Stadium. This comes after the Les Gones sporting director Juninho Pernambucano revealed that they rejected the Gunners’ proposal, which included out-of-favour midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
London club manager understands that in order to meet Aouar’s asking price he will have to trim his team so that he can raise funds following the covid-19 pandemic’s impact on Arsenal’s finances. Arsenal have been trying to find a buyer for Matteo, who has fallen out of favour at the London club, with Valencia posing as a probable destination.
Lucas Torreira appears ready to come back to Serie A with several Italian clubs expressing interest and Mohamed Elneny will also be allowed to leave the Emirates after returning from a season-long loan with Besiktas. The 22-year-old star enjoyed an impressive campaign at Lyon where he scored a total of nine goals and 10 assists in 41 games across all tournaments.
The French midfielder also played a crucial role in the Les Bleus’ stunning UCL season, which saw them making it to the semi-finals. Aouar, though, hasn’t featured in Rudi Garcia’s squad this campaign as he recently tested positive for covid and missed the Les Gones’ opener with Dijon last month.
