Arsenal eyeing move for Lyon key midfielder
Arsenal target Houssem Aouar won’t be leaving Lyon this month as the Ligue 1 club battle for the title in France, but the Frenchman will be available in the summer if the north Londoners wish to renew their interest then.
Houssem was one of the Gunners’ key transfer targets in the summer of 2020, with the player seemingly close to a move to Arsenal before the transfer market closed.
However, the Gunners ended up purchasing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid and not pursuing their interest in Les Gones ace, despite being very keen on his talents.
Houssem has continued to impress this term, making 14 Ligue 1 appearances and netting three goals so far this campaign, with Lyon sitting top of the standings, three points clear of Paris Saint-Germain.
This title bid is part of the reason that the player will not be going anywhere in January, though, as Aouar looks to win an unlikely trophy with Lyon he has spent his entire career so far with.
Sky Sports report that Houssem is keen to leave Lyon in the summer and join a bigger team in a more prominent league, but the Gunners may look elsewhere before that.
Mikel Arteta has been linked with swoops for other creative midfielders and Houssem’s desire to stay where he is until the summer may see them move for a different player rather than wait.
Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Barcelona’s Riqui Puig, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt and Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia.
