Arsenal eyeing move for Former Aston Villa forward
Arsenal are allegedly one of a number of sides to have made contact with Marseille’s Jordan Amavi over a free transfer in the summer transfer market.
The 26-year-old defender’s contract at the Ligue 1 outfit is due to expire at the end of the campaign and he is yet to put pen to paper on a fresh deal.
Amavi is free to talk with possible new suitors, and according to L’Equipe, the Gunners have reached out to the left-back.
The report claims the player is also being courted by Napoli, but Crystal Palace are the team that have shown the most interest.
Amavi has PL experience having made 10 appearances for Aston Villa in the 2015/16 term – the season in which they were relegated to the EFL Championship.
Mikel Arteta has already stated his outfit are short in the left-back position after Sead Kolasinac’s return to Bundesliga strugglers Schalke on loan for the rest of the term.
‘With the departure of Kola, we are a little bit short with left-footed full-backs at the moment,’ the Spanish manager said last week.
‘We know we can use Ainsley there, we can use Bukayo there and we can use Cedric – who has played in that position – so we have some options. A natural option for Kieran? Obviously, we don’t. But we can adapt.’
The Gunners head coach also suggested will explore their options in terms of signing a left-back in January. ‘That means that the option is open and we will look to see what is available,’ Mikel added.
They have also been linked with Ryan Bertrand of the fellow Premier League side Southampton, and Crystal Palace’s gifted full-back Tyrick Mitchell.
