Arsenal eyeing move for £35m Spanish defender
Premier League giants, Arsenal have reportedly identified Villarreal defender Pau Torres as a possible transfer target in the January window.
Mikel Arteta is keen to further strengthen his defensive options following the summer arrival of talented defender Gabriel Magalhaes, with a number of his current centre-backs deemed surplus to requirements.
The likes of Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi have all been rumoured with moves away, while Arteta is also looking for an upgrade on Rob Holding.
Spanish outlet Todofichajes claims that the Gunners have earmarked Torres as possible target when the transfer window will be re-opened in the Winter.
However, they could face stiff competition for his services from their PL rivals Manchester United, who remain in the market for a defender themselves after shipping 11 goals in their opening three games in the English top-tier.
Villarreal are believed to be open to offers for Torres, however, are only willing to consider bids of at least £35m for the Spain international.
Meanwhile, Arsenal head-coach Mikel Arteta was reportedly so determined to re-sign Spanish playmaker, Dani Ceballos back to the Emirates Stadium that he personally stepped in negotiations with Real Madrid to get the deal done.
Ceballos enjoyed an stunning second half of the last campaign on loan at the Emirates Stadium from La Liga giants, Real Madrid back in the 2019-20 season, forming an effective midfield partnership with Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka as the Gunners managed to claim the the FA Cup and Community Shield trophy.
