Arsenal closely monitoring Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey
The London club midfielder Matteo Guendouzi would love to join Atletico as part of a swap deal for Thomas Partey, reports say. Arsenal have interest in Thomas, who has impressed during his time under the Argentine boss in Madrid. However, though Ghana international is intrigued by the prospect of moving to Arsenal, there are obstacles to overcome.
Gunners made a flying start to their PL season on Saturday afternoon. Arsenal were too strong for Fulham, cruising to a 3-0 victory with Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Magalhaes and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all on target.
Despite that win, Gunners know they need more if they’re to finish in the PL top four for the first time since Arsene Wenger’s exit. And the Ghanaian midfielder has been in their sights throughout the summer, with Partey shining under Diego Simeone’s tutelage at Wanda Metropolitano in Spain.
The London giants have tried to tempt Spanish club into selling via a swap deal so far, being unable to afford Thomas’ £45m release clause. And Matteo Guendouzi would love to move to Atletico Madrid, with the 21-year-old midfielder currently out in the cold over at the London club.
However, La Liga giants have no interest in the French midfielder at the current moment in time. And that means that, though the African midfielder would reportedly relish the opportunity to play under the Spanish manager at Arsenal, they look unlikely to bring the footballer to the PL.
Another footballer Gunners have been tipped to add is Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who sparkled for the French club last campaign as they reached the semi-finals of the UCL.
