Arsenal are reportedly pushing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer market, with Edu and Mikel Arteta looking to continue with the rejuvenation of Arsenal that began in January.
The Gunners waved goodbye to Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil in January, significantly reducing the weekly wage bill in the process.
Mid-season signings were few and far between, with young centre-half Omar Rekik the only permanent addition as Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan joined on loan.
That is expected to change when the summer transfer market opens and Arsenal have reportedly pinpointed an early target.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are rivalling Barcelona in the market for the signature of Sevilla winger Bryan Gil, who has caught the eye with his displays on loan with Eibar.
The 20-year-old has made 16 appearances across all competitions for Eibar, scoring three goals and adding two assists to his name.
He has an affordable exit clause of €35m but Arsenal face a race against time if the club are to be able to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
Estadio Deportivo states Sevilla have reached a full agreement with the youngster to extend his deal until 2025 and are planning to significantly increase the clause in his contract.
The plan, led by transfer guru Monchi, is for Gil’s buy-out clause to rise to a whopping €150m, a figure both the Gunners and Blaugrana will likely see as ‘unattainable’.
While that figure isn’t finalised, it’s expected to be around that mark and it gives the Gunners a very slim window to land Bryan before his price-tag flies through the roof.
